Care and maintenance: Cissus, the versatile climbing plant
Share
Cissus, also known as king vine, is a beautiful and versatile climbing plant that does well both indoors and outdoors. With its glossy leaves and graceful growth, it is an asset to any room or garden. Cissus is not only visually attractive, but also very easy to maintain, making it a favorite with both novice and experienced plant lovers.
Cissus grows best in a light spot, but not in direct sunlight. Indoors, you can place it near a north- or east-facing window, while outdoors it prefers partial shade. The plant likes moist, well-drained soil, so make sure the pot or border it is in does not retain water. Water Cissus regularly, but let the soil dry out slightly in between to prevent root rot. In winter, watering can be reduced, because the plant then goes dormant.
Fertilizing once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) helps Cissus stay strong and healthy. Pruning is also an important part of maintenance. Regular pruning keeps the plant compact and stimulates new growth. If you want Cissus to remain a climber, provide a sturdy support such as a trellis, wall or bamboo pole.
