Styling and inspiration with the Hosta

The Hosta is a versatile plant that can be integrated into any garden, especially in shady areas where other plants struggle. Thanks to its wide variety of colours and leaf structures, the Hosta offers plenty of opportunities for creative garden designs.
In a shade garden, the Hosta can be combined with other shade-loving plants such as ferns, astilbes and heucheras. The contrasts between the smooth, large leaves of the Hosta and the finer textures of these plants create a dynamic whole. For a more dramatic effect, you can combine Hostas with blue-green leaves with varieties with yellow-green or variegated leaves.
Hostas also make wonderful groundcovers under trees or shrubs. Their lush foliage creates a rich, green base that can brighten up even the most bare spots in the garden. In larger gardens, groups of different Hosta species can be planted to create a beautiful carpet of colour and texture.
The Hosta also does well in pots. This makes it ideal for patios and balconies. Choose a wide, shallow pot with good drainage, and make sure the plant does not dry out. Combine Hostas in pots with hanging plants or small ornamental grasses to create a playful look.
Hostas can also be used in water features or pond gardens. They thrive in moist soil and add a calm, almost meditative atmosphere to these areas.
