Deze traditionele nestkast met landelijke uitstraling en bitumen dak biedt de Winterkoning een goede plek om in te nesten en om populaties van deze vogelsoort(-en) te behouden of weer terug te krijgen in een gebied. In de winter bewijst de nestkast vaak een goede dienst voor de vogels om te schuilen tegen het slechte weer. Plaats de nestkast aan een boom of muur, op een hoogte tot max. 2 meter, op een goed verborgen plek tussen dicht struikgewas of klimopplanten, op een rustige en enigszins beschutte plaats, dus niet pal in de zon of op de regenzijde, met een vrije aanvliegroute voor de vogel. Hang i.v.m. het territorium van de vogels de nestkast minimaal 10 meter weg van nestkasten die voor eenzelfde soort vogel bedoeld is en minimaal 3 meter weg van voederhuizen.
